Grand Canyon

by The Just Joans

/

about

On the evening of July 11th, as part of the 6/9 Love Songs project, we were randomly selected to cover a track from the classic Magnetic Fields album 69 Love Songs. Drawn to perform Grand Canyon, we were required to produce the subsequent song within just 69 hours.

After almost three days of tears, tantrums and Tunnock’s Teacakes, this is the result.

The 6/9 Love Songs project is raising money for the LGBTQ Freedom Fund, an organisation currently focused on helping those arrested during the recent Black Lives Matter protests across America.

LGBTQ+ people are three times more likely to be jailed than heterosexual individuals. At risk of abuse, many cannot afford bail. The LGBTQ Freedom Fund fights to free them while raising awareness of these disparities.

Our song is free to download but if you enjoy it and if you are able, please consider donating to the cause.

lyrics

If I was the Grand Canyon
I'd echo everything you say
But I'm just me
I'm only me
And you used to love me that way
So you know how to love me that way

If I was Paul Bunyan
I'd carry you so far away
But I'm just me
I'm only me
And you used to love me that way
So you know how to love me that way

If I was the Grand Canyon
I'd echo everything you say
But I'm just me
I'm only me
And you used to love me that way
So you know how to love me that way
